Response Question:
Tell how the following characters respond to the jury's verdict: Jem, Aunt Alexandra, Dill, Miss Maudie, Bob Ewell.

Jem:
Jem's reaction to the trial is to just put it away and just forget what happened. When scout asked Jem about the trial he told her to never mention it again.

Aunt Alexandra:
Aunt Alexandra is a little racist about the whole situation and a little careless. Although when Atticus is upset about Tom Robinson Aunt Alexandra steps in because she "Hates to see her brother like this" and I think that this is when she realizes that this a big deal and not just another trial.

Dill:
I think that Dill is one of the few sensible children in the book apart from Scout and Jem. He was the one who was moved by how the lawyer acted differently toward Tom and had to leave the court room. He might have the biggest heart of all or the most fragile.

Miss Maudie:
Miss Maudie's reaction to the trial was very concealed. I think that she just didn't want to be any part of it. When Atticus took her aside to talk with Cal and Aunt Alexandra she got a little emotional so we could tell that she cared.

Bob Ewell:
Bob Ewell was expecting more attention from the trial, but at the end of the trial the book said "Fine we will convict this man but go back to your dump." He was expecting maybe for people to get more riled up about this trial. The towns people although they hated blacks they also disliked the Ewell people and just because they happened to convict Tom that didn't mean they were on the Ewell's Side.
